Lots of Atari consoles on Craiglist right now, nothing terribly exciting

I am going to leave apart the plug in Atari joysticks, these things are everywhere and not vintage. Here is what you can get today on CL.

 Atari C380 video Pinball  $15 (ok)  Vintage Atari C380 Video Pinball. Unit is in great condition. All knobs and buttons function perfectly. Runs on 6 C size batteries. A prime example of a hard to find Atari classic.
I like this one because it is in color, and Breakout poops on Pong's head in term of game anyway :)
here is an extract from Pong Story about this machine: " In 1977, a new type of ball and paddle system was launched: Video Pinball. This game also existed in the arcade under the same name, hence the home versions sold by Atari (Video Pinball, model C-380) and Sears (Pinball Breakaway, model 99713). These two systems were designed around a more advanced chip than the PONG-in-a-chip devices, possibly a microcontroller (believed, since the system also contains a small RAM chip which role is unknown, but believed to be for the display and/or score storage). The microcontroller is referred as C011500-1, although the system uses another Atari chip referenced C011512-05. The games played are based around the pinball and breakout principles. Depending on the game selected, the ball bounces on two bumpers (pinball games), or on a pad that moves horizontally (pinpaddle games), or just like in breakout."

Atari2600 and Atari 5200, with games $150 (ouch) I have a very old set here. I have an Atari CX-2600 Video Gaming System and an Atari 5200 game system. I discovered it in my parents place while cleaning it out, but I do remember both working just fine last we had them hooked up. Obviously it has the old hooks ups so you will need an older TV or knowledge of how to bypass this in order to use it. The 2600 comes with 2 joysticks and 2 wheel turners. The 5200 has 2 controllers.

Astrocade on Craigslist

You don't see these quite often, a nice looking Astrocade with games and boxes. It even has the Bally basic that I did not know existed (turns out it is no the rarest cart on Ebay).

After researching that Basic cart, now I want an Astrocade. You can even plug your tape recorded to save/play from tapes !!

I am selling my prized vintage Astrocade video game system 13 games, manuals, and a boxed version of Bally basic. The system works and is a great example of the
first generation video game systems. I just need to make room. It will make a great addition to anyone's video game collection. I really don't want to part this game out by
selling on eBay so here it is. $150 or best offer

I have a heavy sixer !!!!!

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a lose Atari 2600 for sale on eBay with some half eaten joysticks, that looked like a heavy sixer, the rarest Atari 2600 console. These consoles are a little hard to detect on a  crappy picture shot, so it was a long shot. Luckily no one else spotted it, the crappy joysticks on the main picture were not very appealing, and I won the auction for $15. Then i waited for it to arrive, I was not sure it would be the grandfathers of all Ataris. When it arrived today, I opened the box and immediately picked it up, it was heavy (4.9 pounds, 2.1 Kgs) and it has all the sign of a heavy sixer (heavy, made in Sunnyvale, CA, heavy molding on the side). Whoohoo !! Graal found !!
I reunited it with a heavy sixer manual I got a Pink Gorilla last month. It is in its box, not sure if it is the original box, I can not find the serial number sticker on the box,, with the orignal grey power adapter. I can't wait to plug it in, supposedly it works, and the onscreen colors of heavy sixers are known to be better than later models.

This small hunting trip is great because it is a single trip to the Ave. and you can see 2 very good and relatively less known shops that sell retro games.
First stop is the University District shop of Pink Gorilla
The shop is bigger than the International District one but has a lesser feel of Japanese shop, maybe because it has a less amount of Jap games and consoles. Today they had a big room full of bargain and I picked up many manuals for a buck each.

Second stop a block north is a used movie / music / video games store, It is an old dusty shop where you would not expect to find much retro systems and games, but you would be wrong. It's a gold mine for retro fans, don't expect to find screaming deals as the owner knows the value of this old junk and price games accordingly, but if you are looking for a specific game, chances are they have it. Stop by also to see their very rare stuff in the various windows, many of them not for sale.
